Job Description: Sustainability Lead – Flexible Packaging and Recycling (AMESA/APAC)

Overview: Main Purpose: Join our dynamic team as a Sustainability Lead focused on advancing PepsiCo’s Responsible Packaging and Recycling agenda, with a primary focus on the AMESA and APAC regions. In this role, you will collaborate across functions, engaging with internal stakeholders from OOS, Comms, PPGA, as well as external consortia and recycling bodies. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring the compatibility of our flexible packaging with collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure, while also serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on End of Life solutions.

Responsibilities: Accountability: As a technical subject matter expert, lead Sector and Global Foods Packaging sustainability initiatives, driving engagement with Sector and Global OOS.

  • Represent PepsiCo in global forums such as CGF PWCoA Chemical Recycling Working Group and Alliance to End Plastic Waste technical working groups.
  • Drive global projects and collaboration with Global OOS on critical areas like RCB document revision, End of Life Hierarchy enhancement based on climate indicators, and packaging sustainability roadmap for emerging markets.
  • Provide guidance to AMESA/APAC Sector leadership on optimal investment solutions.
  • Engage with external sustainability consortia in AMESA/APAC markets to influence sustainable packaging policies.
  • Identify and evaluate technical solutions to enhance packaging structural design and address collection, sorting, and recycling challenges.

Strategies and Technical Advocacy:

  • Develop strategic frameworks and technical insights to support Technical Advocacy efforts with regulators and industry bodies, working closely with Sector/BU PPGA teams.
  • Monitor and analyze local regulations and industry trends to inform packaging specifications and decision-making.

Technology and Data Management:

  • Foster relationships for technology development, unlocking relevant recycling technologies across sectors.
  • Coordinate data submission from Sector OOS for PEP+ reporting through Data Accelerator.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of polymer chemistry, with expertise in multi-layer flexible packaging.
  • Proven self-starter with a track record of strategic thinking and agenda-setting.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, fostering strong working relationships across functions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, influencing, and persuasion skills within a diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in project management, data interpretation/analysis, and people management.
  • Adept understanding of PepsiCo’s Packaging Sustainability goals.
  • Preferred qualifications include a BEng or BSc in Chemical Engineering or Packaging.
