A Product Development Chef, you will be expected to:-
- Have a very strong culinary basics.
- Experience and skill in working on Delicatessen products will be an added bonus.
- Create and maintain an efficient, hygienic, and positive working environment.

- Display good work ethic, resourcefulness, and organization.
- Understand the Standard Operating Procedures and Inspection Regulations.
- Ensure quality control and efficient workflow.
- Display positive leadership.
- Work in a fast-paced, high production setting. Working both
independently and in team situations will require both flexibility and efficient oral and
written communication.
- Working in refrigerated, heated, dry, or damp rooms for extended periods is common.
- Product Development Chef demands proficiencies as follows-
- Develop New Products: Managing new product development projects by researching consumer markets and developing new product concepts and bench-top prototypes.
- Conduct Trials: Analyzing and evaluating trial results to make the necessary adjustments to ingredients, formulations, processes and equipment prior to full-scale production.
- Commercialize Products: Providing input for equipment scoping, processing and nutritional labelling
- Have a very dynamic and confident product developer with strong culinary, technical and organisational skills. Responsible for day-to-day development of high quality fresh meals, salads, soups and sides for a dynamic refrigerated foods company.
- Understand MS Office suite, especially MS-Excel will be highly beneficial.
Responsibilities:-
- Prepare samples for customer presentations and participate in product cuttings providing support to Sales & Marketing
- Strong organization skills in managing multiple projects
- Develops new products from ideation to plant execution for branded and private label products
- Responsible for ingredient sourcing/evaluation, assisting plant trials, initial production runs, internal sensory evaluation of products and final product implementation.
- Responsible for ongoing maintenance of recipes/formulations, methodologies and specifications.
- Formulating new recipes and improving existing ones which keep your company ahead of the competition
- Recommending new products and working with new product development staff to transform food concepts into viable products
- Liaising with colleagues in the commercial, production and technical departments
- Liaising with suppliers to ensure that your company is aware of new ingredients coming on to the market
- Identifying market niches and opportunities into which existing products could be adapted and new products developed
- Conducting consumer testing and taste panels for proposed new products
- Presenting new products to potential trade customers
- Ensuring that potential new products can be manufactured with profitability and meet food safety requirements
- Evaluating the success of new products in their markets
- Continuously researching the market and staying ahead of consumer trends
Our Expectation:-
- You’ll be expected to have experience in top quality restaurants or premium catering establishments, and have a creative mind and the ability and passion to develop innovative products for your company.
- You’ll have to be able to develop recipes that can be made using food manufacturing processes whilst at the same time making sure that these recipes are innovative and creative.
- This means understanding mass production techniques and machinery as well as the specific qualities and shelf-life of different ingredients as well as costings, technical issues and so on.
- It’s important that you’re a people person with good communication and influencing skills because you’ll be talking to a wide variety of people to get your ideas accepted – not only your work colleagues but suppliers and also potential customers.
- In many instances you’ll be expected to meet tight deadlines so you’ll be comfortable in high-pressure situations and able to work effectively.
What you may expect:-
- You can expect to work fairly regular hours; certainly in comparison with what you’ve been used to if you’ve been working in a restaurant or a hotel!
- There will likely be a lot of travel in the job to meet suppliers and customers and you might be surprised to discover how much of your time is spent in meetings away from the development kitchen.
- It is extremely likely that you’ll be a trained and experienced chef for this post, although you may have been appointed with a degree in food technology or food product development.
