Packaging Safety Senior Associate
Kingston upon Hull, East Yorkshire

You will be responsible for evaluating the safety of new and/or changed direct and indirect product contact packaging as part of innovation and non-innovation projects for Nutrition, Health, and Hygiene business units while monitoring the safety of existing packaging portfolio. You’ll:
- Liaise with Packaging R&D and Regulatory teams in ensuring proper documents from suppliers are obtained
- Design and align with Packaging R&D the appropriate testing to prove safety by identifying the correct extraction solution or product simulant, time-temperature condition based on actual product application and intended use
- Establish and/or improve Reckitt internal safety standard for packaging used in Nutrition, Health, and Hygiene portfolios
- Generate safety report with sound acceptance criteria and analyse the results against internal Reckitt safety standards’ and against applicable regulations’ limits. Interpret and share the results with cross-functional team with recommendation on pack size, shape, format, etc. that fit within the limits of safety.
- Support product filing or notification to external regulation body with safety report and/or toxicological exposure assessments when needed.
- Investigate further detected non-compliance through supplier collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams globally to ensure packaging safety assessments are incorporated into the overall project timeline and scope
- Lead/Support the creation and maintenance of packaging chemical footprint database of known and emerging substances of concern
- Serve as SME to provide recommendations with regards to safety in the establishment and improvement of standard operating procedure in the use of Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials.
You’ll succeed because…
..You’ll have in-depth understanding of various packaging material structure / composition, formats, technologies, and product-packaging interaction that affect safety, You’ll have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in Packaging Science, Chemistry, or related field
- Experience in food/ pharma or relevant health, hygiene business, with role specific to Packaging Safety:
- Experience with conduct of safety assessments
- Knowledge and experience of contaminants monitoring
- Risk management and mitigation – identify risks, conduct root-cause analysis, and establish mitigation plan
- Stakeholder management – tailor-fit communication to different stakeholders (peers, leadership team, cross-functional team) to engage and obtain support, and assure stakeholders that proper actions are being taken to manage risks
- Exposure to regional or global matrix, multinational, culturally diverse, dynamic, cross-functional teams based in different locations / time zones
